TV and Movies

Roar on Apple TV. Worth watching. The cinematography is beautiful. It's like a feminist Black Mirror. It's good, but I think it could be great. Some of the writing is more on the nose (and less nuanced) that I would expect from such high caliber talent. I hope they renew for another season. It's rare to get a premium television 30 minute show that are standalone episodes.

TV and Movies

The Deep End on Freeform. Skip. Freeform really wanted a buzzy cult docuseries and so they made on with whoever they could get. The leader, Teal Swan, isn't especially interesting and the central question seems to be 'IS this a cult,' not 'what is going on with this cult.' It's cringy in that way you briefly wondered if witchcraft was a thing you could pursue in 6th grade.

TV and Movies

The Big Conn on Apple TV. Didn't get a chance to finish last night, but the first episode was very good. I believe it's four episodes and they are all out. The Wall Street Journal reporter who didn't know that disability was a 'thing' though? At a minimum don't say that out loud on camera. The story is great with you sandbagging your own hero's journey.

TV and Movies

I Love That for You on Showtime. Started this last night and it immediately felt like a comfort show. Woman pursuing her dreams of being a QVC host. Molly Shannon is amazing in it too.
